| Description |
Our house was originally part of a 17th century fortified farm and was fully converted to a very high standard in 2004. The roof was completely replaced, all wiring, plumbing and building work is less than 6 years old. Some of the original walls are nearly 3 feet thick, keeping the house cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Throughout, the house is lined and insulated and, with the exception of the master bedroom all the floors to the groundfloor are tiled. From the garden, the main door, part glazed, leads into the entrance hall. I currently use part of this as my office A glazed panel natural wood door leads us into the fully fitted kitchen. The photograph shows the layout and to retain the French style, the ceiling is beamed and timber lined. The kitchen has all the required electrical outlets and plumbing. From the kitchen, a second matching door leads to the dining room. This room adjoins the lounge and is separated by two bi-folding doors of glazed Canadian hemlock. With the doors folded back, an open-plan area 27 feet long by 16 feet wide is revealed. The lounge opens on to the garden via a 2 metre wide glazed door. It should be noted that all external doors and windows are double glazed. Leading from the lounge is the stairwell to the right of which we enter the master bedroom, 20 feet long by 12 feet wide, with bathroom ensuite; A 2 metre glazed door looks onto the garden, providing a beautiful bright room. The bathroom is fully tiled and has a corner bath, walk in shower, toilet and vanity unit. Upstairs is a second fully tiled bathroom, with a bath and shower over, toilet and vanity unit. The two double bedrooms off the landing have exposed beams and double glazed windows. One of the bedrooms gives access to the massive roof space. The photographs show the garden which has a large lawn and a generous area for bushes and perennial plants. The garage has a tiled roof and concrete florr, adjacent is a large storeroom for the usual bikes, tools etc. The property is accessed by the wrought iron gates shown. The large conifer hedge to the South and the ytwo side walls give a sheltered private property. The very large, traditional, tiled roof porch, 22 feet long by 13 feet wide is an ideal area to spend hot sunny days, the patio floor is tiled.
Gibourne is a small, ancient village overlooking the Gibourne valley. Our house is on the very edge of the village. Our nearest town is Matha, only 5 minutes drive away, it has a good selection of supermarkets, shops, Banks, Doctors etc To the SW is Cognac (25 mins away) and Saintes, the original Roman capital of the area (35 mins away) Stain Jean D'Angely, a medieval market town is about 20 minutes away Our location also gives good access to to dozens of sandy beaches. There are 3 airports all used by the low cost airlines, La Rochelle, Poitiers & Angouleme |
