(French name: Pain Perdue)
Ingredients for 4 people:
- 8slices of bread (preferable thick cut)
- 3 eggs
- 1 cup (250 ml) milk
- ½ teaspoon (3 ml) ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon (3 ml) ground nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon (6 ml) vanilla extract
- Salt to taste. Suggest ½ teaspoon (3 ml).

Recipe:
Beat the eggs
Add the milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla extract and salt. Mix together.
Soak the bread slices in the mixture.
Fry the soaked bread on one side until golden brown, then turn and fry until the other side is golden brown.
Serve.
Notes:
If you do not have a non-stick pan, you will need to put a bit of butter (or fat) in the frying pan to avoid the French toast from sticking to it.

If possible, use bread that is somewhat stale rather than fresh bread. It is more authentic and it will absorb the egg and milk mixture better.
