Camping
Equipment & Gear |
|
The choice of suitable camping
equipment (also known as camping gear) is often the difference between a camping
trip which is successful and fun, and one that isn't. Even if one has an
unlimited budget, it isn't simply a matter of 'quality' (although high-quality
camping gear is of course preferable to low-quality); it is also a matter of
suitability. Common errors include:
- Packing a camping stove which is too big (do you really want to carry a huge stove around) or too small (trying to prepare family meals on a single burner gets monotonous after a couple of days).
- A sleeping bag which is too warm (for summer camping) or too cold (for winter camping).
- Hiking shoes that don't fit or haven't been broken in.
- Tents that are difficult to erect.
To avoid such problems, we've prepared a set of independent articles on
camping equipment. To select the topic of interest to you, please use the
drop-down menu at the top of the page entitled "equipment". For each of the
camping equipment topics, we:
- Review the main types, along with the main criteria for selecting
the type most suitable to you
- Discuss the various options, with the advantages and disadvantages
of each option
- Provide suggestions on how to select equipment that best meets
your needs
- Give related information (e.g. how to use and maintain your
camping equipment)
- Note relevant safety considerations
In addition to selecting the equipment most suited to your requirements (and
your budget!!), we also offer some tips on how to get the best use out of this
equipment. To see our current selection of articles, please use the drop-down
menu at the top of the page entitled "Tips & Suggestions".
